Fire on Every Side

This morning during personal study, I read about Nephi and Lehi—two missionaries in the Book of Mormon. They are preaching to the Nephites, and soon darkness encases the listeners. Nephi and Lehi exhort them to pray, and this is what happens:

And it came to pass that when they cast their eyes about and saw that the cloud of darkness was dispersed from overshadowing them, behold, they saw that they were encircled about, yea every soul, by a pillar of fire (Helaman 5:23; emphasis added).

Sometimes, I feel that I am in a cloud of darkness: uncertainty, doubt, hopelessness, or any myriad of emotions. However, just like there was fire around these Nephites, there is the light of the gospel around me. I am very grateful for this truth that I can hold onto.
