The Power in Righteous Prayer

Yes, this is another post about prayer. I don't know why, but since my mission I've really come to see the power in prayer.

Recently, I was feeling discouraged because I didn't think my prayers could affect anyone elseultimately, they had their agency, so why should I keep praying?

A fellow missionary pointed out to me the story of Alma the Younger, who was the vilest of sinners and intent on destroying the church. An angel appeared to Alma the Younger and called him to repentance, saying
Behold, the Lord hath heard the prayers of his people, and also the prayers of his servant, Alma, who is thy father; for he has prayed with much faith concerning thee that thou mightest be brought to a knowledge of the truth; therefore, for this purpose have I come to convince thee of the power and authority of God, that the prayers of his servants might be answered according to their faith (Mosiah 27:14; emphasis added).
The angel appeared to Alma the Younger and the sons of Mosiah because of the prayer of faith offered by Alma the Elder (D&C 42:14). This is only one of many fulfilments of the promise, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous [person] availeth much" (James 5:16).

Ultimately, we have to keep praying because our prayers do matter. If we are acting righteously, and we are praying fervently for others, we will contribute to our loved ones' spiritual progression, and we will be heard by God. So don't get discouraged. Keep going.
