Moroni is frequently people's hero in the
Book of Mormon; after all, he was a "hell-shaker." Alma writes these inspiring words about him:
I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever (Alma 48:17).
What? That is
amazing. I envision Moroni possessing every
Christlike attribute: faith, hope, charity, love, virtue, knowledge, patience, humility, diligence, obedience, and more. However, I don't take comfort in that verse about Moroni; I am inspired by the verse a little later:
Helaman and his brethren were no less serviceable unto the people than was Moroni (Alma 48:19).
Now
that is incredible. Moroni wasn't the only "hell-shaker" in the
Book of Mormon; in fact, there were several others who diminished the devil. That verse gives me hope that I can be no less serviceable. I love the quote by Howard W. Hunter:
Obviously we could profit greatly from studying the life of Moroni. His an example of . . . many godly attributes. [But] not all are going to be like Moroni catching the acclaim every day . . . to those of you who may find that lonely or frightening or just unspectacular, I say that you are 'no less serviceable' than the most spectacular of your associates (No Less Serviceable).
That is someone I can be. I can embrace my role in God's kingdom, and I can earn the title "no less serviceable." This is a great comfort to me.
