This morning, I was reading in the Book of Mormon, and the prophet Alma talks about the resurrection. He says,
The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul . . . even a hair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame (Alma 40:23).What a promise! That is definitely something I hold onto amid the crazy—certainly when the crazy includes illnesses that don't seem to go away. Viral bronchitis is one of those things; my companion has had it for almost two weeks, but this isn't the first time Warrenton has been hit with illness. Ever since I've been in the ward, we keep getting sick . . . and it is a little frustrating!
However, all we've been experiencing here in Warrenton are variations of colds. I know that there are much more serious and long term illnesses than bronchitis, but even those are overcome through the resurrection. I am so grateful to know that! There is joy in Christ's resurrection because it holds the promise that we will also be resurrected. I love this poem that was published in the New Era a few years ago:
The linen which once held Him is now empty. It lies there,Fresh and white and cleanAnd oh, hallelujah, it is empty.
—Empty Linen by Emily Harris (New Era April 2011)I add my testimony to that: hallelujah, Christ is risen.
